"Alice Huey-Ching Ding passed away peacefully on July 4, 2018. She was truly loved and cherished by family and friends, patients and acquaintances. Born in Seoul, Korea to Helen and Chih-Kan Ding, she moved to the United States at a young age of 11. She attended Nathan Hale High School and continued on to the University of Washington where she completed her undergraduate BS degree in Biology (Phi Beta Kappa), obtained a Medical Doctorate, and finished with her residency in Internal Medicine. Briefly, Alice worked in a remote area of Alaska where her love for the outdoors was nurtured. She returned to Seattle and became one of the original hospitalist in the Providence (Swedish) system, providing care to those in need. She served on the Board at the Kin On Nursing Home for many years, and has volunteered her time at the Westside School.
When visiting with Alice, it was evident that she had many activities. Family life constantly kept her busy. Her passion for hiking and the great outdoors with regular excursions was obvious in her sharing. Regular traveling was always on the agenda. She always tried to make time to meet up with friends.
She is survived by her husband Greg Yen, sons Bradley (10) and Miles (9), brother Peter, mother Helen Ding, and many extended relatives.
An open viewing will be available at Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park in Seattle on Monday, July 9 from 1:00 to 8:00PM. A Celebration of Life ceremony is pending.
Donations may be made to the Allen Institute for Brain Science or the Washington Trails Association.
We all miss you, Alice, but know that you are in a better place."

From the time Miles and Eli were in pre-k together, I’ve been always grateful for having Alice in our lives. From crushing it at pizza day to making me laugh at book club to having frank conversations about raising our kids, Alice has always had a special place in my heart. That will never change. Her laugh and her caring manner are forever woven into the fabric of my life. We are all better for knowing her, and I look forward to continue seeing her intelligence, thoughtfulness and kindness manifest in her beautiful boys. We are forever here for you, Greg, Bradley and Miles. Much love, the Leeds family

I'm so sorry for your loss. Our prayers are with you.
My heartfelt condolences to Alice's mother, husband, sons and extended family. Rest in peace, Alice.
I knew Alice while at UW and took many pre-med classes with her along with other close friends at the time. Alice's parents were in Korea where I stayed briefly, but never saw her while I was there. It was fate to meet her again at UW. I still remember the red VW scirocco she use to drive and took some of us to her house to study for finals. I know Alice's brother Peter at work and its extremely sad for me to hear this news about Alice. I will hold-on to the good memories she shared with us and believe that she is in a wonderful place.
Our deepest condolences to Greg, Bradley, Miles and the rest of the family in this difficult time. Alice was a joy to work with and always gave so much to her patients and fellow coworkers. As I got to know Alice, we found out that our mothers knew each other through their respective social networks and we even had Helen over to our house once to meet my mother when she visited Seattle. As we all cope with her loss, I think that sometimes the candle that burns twice as bright burns half as long. May you rest in peace Alice.
I cannot express how much Alice meant to everyone at Swedish. She was full of laughter and love and had so much to teach us and her patients. She is so so missed. To her husband and boys, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I was so sorry to hear about Alice's passing. As a neighbor of Alice and her brother Peter's. She was always so positive, driven, but easy to have a laugh with. I never doubted she would fulfill her dreams of becoming a Dr. and touching so many lives. Thinking of you all you in this difficult time.

While I wasn't a close friend or fellow Physician this news of her death touches me deeply. I worked with Dr Ding for many years at Swedish caring for patients. I remember how she worked as a team member with me, thoughtfully caring for our patient. She was very energetic, dedicated and caring in her approach quickly working through problems and sharing her thoughts on how to best handle each situation over the years. We will miss her and my thoughts are with her family as they grieve their loss.

Mike and Alice worked together for almost 20 years. When Mike had a difficult time after a life-changing accident, Alice was there to help him with her compassion, expertise and friendship. Our hearts ache for Alice, her family and all of her Swedish family who miss her so deeply.//Mike and Cindy Collins
We are heartbroken. Alice has been a friend since 1990 when I started medical school . She was aTA in anatomy - tough class. She did an amazing job to make the class a positive learning experience. Through the years, she was always there a mentor and friend as we tracked through the same residency and ended up working at the same hospitalist group, very recently. She brought energy and enthusiasm in the hospital, even on the longest days. What stands out is how vibrant, bright, caring and dedicated she was to her patients as well as her colleagues. Sending healing thoughts and energy for her dear family, including her sons and husband, Greg. She is missed greatly.
This is heartbreaking. Alice was an exceptional friend, mentor, coworker, and physician. I worked alongside her on the palliative care team for 4 years. I so valued her wisdom, intelligence, sense of humor and laugh, and her deep kindness. I am grateful to have known her and called her a friend. She will be greatly, greatly missed. Peace and healing to all who loved her.

My condolences to the family. Alice was a smart, thoughtful, and fun person. I’ve worked and known Alice for 7 years at Swedish and we became good friends when I used to work with her. I will always cherish my memories of Alice when she used to come to my office at CH to ask for candy, give her hugs when she needed one, talk about work and life or even joke around. Also, Alice asking me to make cupcakes for her parties. She was an awesome doctor, always worrying and caring for her patients. Alice Rest In Peace, I will miss you my dear friend. Becky Woo
My sincerest sympathy to the family. Alice was my pal in the Evangelical Chinese Church youth group back in high school. We spent many hours doing what teenage girls do - talk about faith, boys, school, and dreams. She already knew she wanted to be a doctor, and I never doubted she would succeed. We lost touch when we both headed off to college. I rest in the promise of seeing her again in Heaven.
Alice was such a bright light to all of us at Swedish and we are heartbroken by her passing. My deepest condolences to her family for such a tragic loss. We will miss her terribly.

I have worked with Alice from ICU to other units and she was always so very nice and listened well to patient reports and gracious in hearing out my concerns. God Bless you Alice and Rest In Peace.
I met Alice when she was a medical student and later a resident, and I last saw her just a few months ago at Swedish Cherry Hill. Dr Ding was a wonderful clinician and charming at all times. When we met Alice, it turned out we had, for years, been going to her parent's restaurant, so we already knew her parents. We are heartbroken over this. -- Eric Gierke
My most heartfelt condolences to Alice's mother, husband, children, and other family members. Words cannot express the sadness that I felt upon hearing of her passing. From the time I first met her 22 years ago when I was very green medical intern on her teaching service at the former Providence Seattle Medical Center to recent years as one of her sub-specialty consultants, I have always found her to be warm and caring to her patients and a wonderful colleague with whom to work together. We will miss you.
She was a wonderful doctor and treated her co-workers well, I will miss her.
Alice was my resident when I was a young neuro attending at PacMed. She was an amazing friend who was there for me when I was a single mom. I have fond memories of our bike trip through Napa and eating a ridiculously huge Korean meal in San Francisco. I remember our last meal together before I left Seattle. RIP dear Alice - I will miss your beautiful smile and your sweet friendship...

I remember when Alice started as a new hospitalist back at Providence. She was always a great doctor, and a warm and nice person. We used to laugh as I took care of Brenda her sister in law for Brenda's pregnancies. We would pass in the halls over the years and shared a few patients. I was always happy when Alice took care of my patients. My thoughts are with her family. She will be strongly missed.
