Evergreen Washelli Celebrates Black History Month

Evergreen Washelli hosted a delightful programme on February 18 in honor of Black History Month. Pastor Leslie Braxton of the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship received our Special Recognition Award for all his good works in the Community.

Community Outreach Manager Dan White and Community and Group Coordinator Joanna Ellison organized the event, which featured the Mt Zion Baptist Church Praise Dancers and the vocals of the incomparable Total Experience Gospel Choir.   Pastor Linda Smith of the Sky Urban Empowerment and Transformation Center and Pastor Rick Danner of New Light Christian Church offered prayers and reflection. Sumptuous refreshments were provided by Mr. Jesse Lee and My Sweet Little Cakes, and a good time was had by all.

We would like to thank the many people who contributed to the success of the event, especially Mr. Calvin West. Mr. West generously loaned us several historical dioramas featuring many significant African Americans, including  President Barack Obama,  Elijah McCoy,      Louis Armstrong, Mary Eliza Mahoney, Arthur Ashe, Mary McLeod Bethune and several other Americans of African descent who helped shape our country and the world. 

And of course, many thanks to all who attended. It would not have been the same without you!~~Mary Gibbons
