Karen Lee "The Queen" Thymian, 71, passed away in Edmonds, Washington on March 9, 2018. She was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 14, 1947, the third of 6 children? and moved with her family to Butte, Montana in 1954. During high school she worked part time at her family's Pasty Shop, which served up meat pasties beloved by the miners. After graduating from Butte High School in 1965?, Karen worked at Mountain Bell as a telephone switchboard operator. She attended Montana Tech College in Butte and worked at Metals Bank. It was at this time that she met the love of her life, Jack, who was a mining engineer. They were married on ...1968? Jack was taken from Karen suddenly and at 21 Karen set about reinventing her life. She matriculated at Eastern Mountain College in Special Education in Billings. After she graduated she moved back to Butte and taught Special Education. She then moved to the Seattle area to start her life's next chapter. Karen loved her career as a Special Education Teacher, and was treasured by all who met her. She worked very hard - often two jobs. She would work her fulltime job during the day as a Special Ed teacher and then at night teach a cooking class for the disabled. She had an incredible spirit of volunteerism. Some of the places she volunteered were the Food Bank, the Senior Center, the Fire Department of Lynwood and Custom Industries. Karen was a loving mother and Micaela was surely the thing she was the very most proud of in her life. An intimate memorial gathering will be held in her honor on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at 10:30am at Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home, 11111 Aurora Ave N, Seattle, WA 98133.
