Wanda M. Soderberg
April 22, 1918 - August 23, 2010
In Loving Memory
Wanda Maxine Soderberg, 92, went home to be with the Lord on August 23, 2010, at Luca's Adult Family Home in Bothell, Wash.
Wanda was born April 22, 1918, in Seattle, Wash, to Reuben and Hazel Rosenkranz. She became a big sister when her brother, Norman, was born 11 years later. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1936 and went to work at the Bon Marche in the lingerie department.
Around this time the family began attending Hollywood Temple (which became Calvary Temple and now Calvary Christian Assembly). It was here that Wanda met Lloyd and they began dating. One Sunday in the Fall of 1941 Lloyd and Wanda flew up to Vancouver, B.C. where Lloyd proposed to her in Stanley Park and presented her with a diamond engagement ring. They flew back and arrived at church that evening just in time to share the happy news with their friends. They were married in May, 1942 and soon were blessed with two children, Sharon in 1944 and Rick in1946.
Wanda was an active member of Calvary Temple. Over the years she started a women's missionary group, sang in the choir, taught Sunday School and worked in the church office. Wanda and Lloyd enjoyed camping and were part of a group of 10 - 12 families from Calvary Temple that camped together several times each summer.
Wanda had a drapery shop in her home for a few years where she worked with her mother who lived next door. They were employed by a lady who had a contract with Boeing and they made the drapes for Air Force One during the Eisenhower administration. Wanda used some of the leftover fabric to make herself a skirt which she always referred to as her "Eisenhower skirt."
Later Wanda went to work as a checker for Lindsay's Thriftway. She really enjoyed it and remained there until her retirement. After Sharon and Rick were grown, she and Lloyd traveled extensively around the U.S., Europe, and the Holy Land. Her other interests included family and friends, her church and crafts such as ceramics and needlework. She was an accomplished cook and loved trying new recipes. Her holiday dinners were legendary and eagerly anticipated by the entire family.
Wanda loved the Lord with all her heart and was known as the great prayer warrior of the family. She prayed for each child and grandchild daily and her desire was that they know Jesus and serve him faithfully.
Wanda devoted much of her energy as a caregiver to family members, first her father, then Lloyd, who passed away in 1985 shortly after their 43rd wedding anniversary. She then cared for her mother who lived to be 101.
Wanda is survived by her children and their spouses, Ron and Sharon Entriken and Rick and Penny Soderberg; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
