Tribute To a Gracious Husband and Father

With overflowing gratitude to God, we announce the home going of our precious husband, father and grandfather, Edward Selin, on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 from complications of congestive heart failure.

There will be a graveside service on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Evergreen Washelli, located at 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98133. Following the graveside service there will be a memorial service at 12:00 noon, with reception following, at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, located at 19555 Fremont Ave. N., Shoreline, WA 98133.

Dad was born on December 1, 1927 to John and Hilda Selin in Seattle, Washington. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1945 and then entered the US Navy, but also attended Yale University in his freshman year of college and later the University of Washington.

He married his true love, Barbara Halone in 1950, and being blessed with more than 59 years of marriage, they had six children, twenty-eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Dad’s career was in sales of commercial building materials, an area in which he found much success and which he thoroughly enjoyed. Dad built a reputation as being a man of honor and honesty. He also was known for his wonderful sense of humor, his intelligence, his patriotism and his tender concern for people. He was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church where he served for many years as chairman of the congregation.

He loved to spend time with his family at his retreat on Samish Island. His whole life revolved around caring for and loving his family. He and mom were always known for their devotion to each other and to their Lord Jesus Christ. He has left behind his loving wife and family and many dear friends, but also treasured memories and the lasting legacy of his selfless example and sacrificial love. While we grieve his passing, we know he is in heaven and are so very grateful for having been forever blessed by knowing him.

Ed is survived by his wife Barbara, and children Bruce Selin & wife Carol, of Snohomish, WA, Karen Impola and husband Dave, of Everett, WA, J. Ted Selin and wife Diana, of Bothell, WA, Dan Selin and wife Vicki of Kenmore, WA, Linda Loutsis and husband Danny, of Bothell, WA and Jon Selin and wife Suzy of Snohomish, WA, 28 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his sister Elma Johnson, of Burlington, WA .

Our deepest thanks to Dr. William Getchell and staff at Eastside Cardiology, the Eastside Urology group and numerous other caretakers for their excellent care, extending over several years.

Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Lutheran Church of America Foreign Mission, c/o the above church address, or to Eastside Cardiology at Evergreen Hospital, 12333 NE 130th Lane, Suite #320, Kirkland, WA 98034.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Romans 3:21-26

Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Hebrews 13:7-8

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people: for they shall be as the stones of a crown, lifted up as an ensign upon his land. For how great is his goodness, and how great is his beauty! Zechariah 9:16-17a

And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him. Malachi 3:17
