May 28, 2018 is Memorial Day, and Evergreen Washelli invites you to our annual celebration.
At 7:00 AM, there will be a Flag Placement at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Veterans, scout groups, churches, local organizations and families will place flags at each of the 5,000 markers in our “Arlington of the West.” (There will be additional flags available in the Columbarium and Funeral Home lobby, for honoring those who are interred elsewhere throughout the grounds.)
There will be a concert at 1:30 PM, followed by the Service of Remembrance which begins at 2:00 PM. We are delighted to have two keynote speakers this year: Lt. General Gary Volesky of Joint Base Lewis-McChord and artist Michael G. Reagan of the Fallen Heroes Project. Lt. General Volesky is the Commanding General of I Corps and JBLM, as well as a highly experienced officer and decorated combat veteran. Gifted artist Michael Reagan, a veteran himself, does portraits of fallen service members to serve as a conduit for their families’ healing. Evergreen Washelli is honored to have these distinguished men spend time with us on Memorial Day.
Following the Memorial Day Commemorative Service, we invite you to attend a guided tour and learn about the remarkable lives of the Medal of Honor recipients who rest within our gates. The tour, which begins at the Doughboy Statue in Washelli Veterans Cemetery, will commence at 3:15 PM; your guide will be David Bloch, whose father was Medal of Honor recipient Orville Emil Bloch.
We hope you will join us for this very special day. If you would like to volunteer your time for this event, please contact Brenda Spicer McCoy: firstname.lastname@example.org.
We will be observing regular business hours on this holiday.
